Intermodal Transport

Many had hoped that intermodal rail transport would have an effect both on the environment in a positive way and lower transport costs. Now it didn't turn out that way, but costs for driving intermodal are irresponsibly high and there are explanations why.

The image above shows two fundamental errors in intermodal transport

1. the abnormally expensive and unwieldy container rails used when handling containers and semi-trailers
2. the unit load semi-trailer would not be included in this segment, but it should only be containers and swap bodies.

Then the design and handling equipment give the requirement that it must be a lead-free area. It creates that a shunting of the wagons must enter the terminal. An interruption in the logistic chain and leads to both time delays and high transhipment costs.
